~The Easter Dress~

~Jo Ann~

I remember back when I
was a child--It was close to
Easter time and I didn't have
an Easter dress.

My Mom knew when Easter
Sunday came that I would be
the only little girl not
wearing an Easter Dress.

She had a white dress someone
had given her. She said, "Jo Ann,
I'm going to make you an
Easter dress."

I will always remember that
Easter dress--her working,
taking it apart. She had never
sewn much at all, just a hem or
maybe a button that had
come off.

She worked so hard on this
dress for me. A friend helped
a little, but Mom did the most
of it.

She would have me try it
on, take it off, and try it
on again. She worked hard
on that dress for me.
On Easter morning I had
a new dress!

I will never forget
that Easter morning, nor will
I ever forget my white dress.
I was so proud of that dress
my Mom made for me. I would look
in the mirror and think
just how pretty I looked
in my new dress.

When we got to Sunday School
that Sunday, I remember looking
at all the little girls in their new dresses.
I am sure they had a dress
just as pretty as mine, but
in my eyes none was as pretty
as the white dress my Mom
made for me.
