Miscellaneous Tips

  • Your house will smell festive during the holidays with this Seasonal Scent: 1/4 cup whole cloves, 2 bay leaves, 3 cinnamon sticks, 1/2 quartered lemon, 1/2 quartered orange, 1 quart of water. Bring to a boil in a saucepan, reduce heat and simmer. Store in refrigerator.
  • To eliminate odors, mold, and mildew from the inside of your refrigerator, wipe inside surfaces with white distilled vinegar at least once a month. You can keep it smelling fresh by placing a cotton ball that's been soaked with lemon, orange, or peppermint extract, inside.
  • Put a few denture tablets or Vitamin C tablets into toilet bowl and let stay overnight...or at least 2-3 hours...and then brush and flush.
  • Keep a sponge mop near your shower or tub for cleaning to lessen bending and stooping.
  • Use lemon oil to remove water spots on metal frames around shower doors.
  • Rubbing alcohol is a one of my favorite chrome cleaners.
  • If you need only a part jar of pimentos, they will keep indefinitely if covered with vinegar and refrigerated.
  • Arthritis tonic and treatment; 2 spoonfuls of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water several times daily.
  • For arthritis pain; mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 2 teaspoon of raw honey with warm water or milk and drink once or twice a day, or mix with a little butter and spread on toast. I've been known to eat it straight from the spoon and then drink something. Experiment and do what works best for you.
  • I have read that half a teaspoon of cinnamon is enough to lower glucose levels, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels in some people.
  • Tea Tree Oil; For cold Sores apply it when you first feel one coming on and it can cut the outbreak down. Apply it when you do have a cold sore and it can heal and get rid of it quickly. Just dab it on a few times a day.
  • Tea Tree Oil is good for nail fungus and nail infections. Apply, and massage well into the area that is affected and around the cuticle. Do not rinse off. I have found it helpful to apply during the nighttime hours if you happen to be getting up.
  • For minor burns, wash the burn area right away with ice water. Then apply Tea Tree Oil directly to the burned area. This will speed healing, prevent infection, and reduce scarring.
  • Tea Tree Oil is helpful in removing ticks from the body. Apply directly to the tick and apply on infected area after removal of the tick. Helps relieve the itching. Also good for other insect bites. When used on a large area, mix with olive oil.
